Extreme Survival: The Andes Plane Crash

Picture the scene… your plane has crashed in a remote part of the Andes, it’s below freezing outside, and not everyone on board has survived the crash.

Oh, and there’s just been an avalanche.

You and the remaining passengers have choices to make. Do you stay inside the plane, even though the oxygen is running out? Do you try to make your escape onto the treacherous mountain without proper clothes or equipment? And most chillingly, what do you and your fellow survivors eat when there’s no food for miles around?

In all likelihood, this is not a choice you will ever have to make. However, for a Uruguayan rugby team in 1972, this was a very real and very present danger.
